If you’re anything like me, you already know the joys of finding “just the right domain name” still available.
If not — let me warn you now … it can be addictive!
There are lots of reasons to register our own domain names, but perhaps the most important (in my mind) are:
- it makes us a business unto ourselves — can anyone say “free agent”??
- it creates an entity that people can wrap their brains around and begin to ‘remember’ and look for again
- it allows us to leverage our advertising efforts across time (they can be redirected to point at your company replicate site, or a new blog, or a site that holds an optin page, or a static website — anytime)
- it looks more professional
- it *can* help your target market find you
I generally buy (register - you don’t actually ‘own’ it — it’s more of a lease arrangement) mine from GoDaddy.com, it costs around $10/ year for each name.
They get mixed reviews in the hosting department, but if you’re going to point to a free blog (for instance) — this is not a bridge that needs to be crossed at this point.
Come back and share your newly won domain names when you get them — I love seeing what others come up with
Make it a great day,
Andrea

Boy do I know about them being addictive. I wish I had never gotten hooked on them. I am trying to come up with one right now.

Including your site’s main keywords in your domain name can go a long way towards helping your target market find you.
